WHAT THEY ARE ALL ABOUT
Sydney Brown was born out of a conviction that luxury could be produced in an environmentally-friendly way. Taking a holistic approach to design, Sydney Brown espouses respect for the environment with sustainable material development being key to each season’s design process. The core tenets of the brand revolve around the concept of “reverence for life” and this respect for life is extended to three spheres:
Each shoe is handcrafted at a state-of-the-art factory near Porto, Portugal, which is committed to sustainability as well as high performance and new technology constructions.
Every element of the shoe is free of animal products, using non-animal fat glues developed in-house by adhesive chemists, 100% vegan and PETA approved.
Each component of the shoe is carefully developed to fit with the brand’s ethos, utilizing recycled and sustainable materials. Every season, Sydney Brown strives to improve and develop these further.
WHY WE CARRY THEM
"I have so much respect for designers like Brown, the core values of her brand are so honest and thoughtful. She is defiantly someone to be looked up to in the industry. In a world where so many businesses are slapping the word "sustainable" on their brand, it's nice to see someone that really takes it to heart, laying it all out there. Her Reverence for all living things is inspiring and beautiful. And if the core tenants of her brand are not impressive enough, these shoes look fucking cool too. These shoes are the modern sleek answer to 70s staples...what's not to love!"
- Preservation founder, Nicole Lorenson
"What makes Sydney Brown shoes so appealing is that no matter how simple your outfit is, her shoes will always make a statement. An instant coolness! All of them are an investment piece that everyone should have in their closet."
- #shopgal, Gladys Gonzalez
Influenced by both music and Japanese design, Brown, who lived in Tokyo to study sound design, begins her process by inspiring herself with a location (Japan/West Coast USA) and then folds a soundtrack to their scenes. This creation of sound and scene is what ultimately leads to the design of a shoe.
"I’m a music nerd above and beyond anything else..I often think, ‘What if you turned sound into three-dimensional form?’" ( Sydney Brown for Vogue.com, 2017. )
Brown then tries to capture that atmosphere within the materials and lines of the collection. The shoes are free of animal products and use eco-friendly materials such as coconut insoles, recycled and sustainable uppers, and reclaimed wooden soles.
