WHAT THEY ARE ALL ABOUT

Sydney Brown was born out of a conviction that luxury could be produced in an environmentally-friendly way. Taking a holistic approach to design, Sydney Brown espouses respect for the environment with sustainable material development being key to each season’s design process. The core tenets of the brand revolve around the concept of “reverence for life” and this respect for life is extended to three spheres:

Human

Each shoe is handcrafted at a state-of-the-art factory near Porto, Portugal, which is committed to sustainability as well as high performance and new technology constructions.

Animal

Every element of the shoe is free of animal products, using non-animal fat glues developed in-house by adhesive chemists, 100% vegan and PETA approved.

Environment

Each component of the shoe is carefully developed to fit with the brand’s ethos, utilizing recycled and sustainable materials. Every season, Sydney Brown strives to improve and develop these further.

THEIR PROCESS

Influenced by both music and Japanese design, Brown, who lived in Tokyo to study sound design, begins her process by inspiring herself with a location (Japan/West Coast USA) and then folds a soundtrack to their scenes. This creation of sound and scene is what ultimately leads to the design of a shoe.

Brown then tries to capture that atmosphere within the materials and lines of the collection. The shoes are free of animal products and use eco-friendly materials such as coconut insoles, recycled and sustainable uppers, and reclaimed wooden soles.
